KOALA - biography
Since the 90s Jean-Michel has been working in recording studios, at the beginning he developped his knowledge of sound for documentary and cinematographical productions. Also a drummer in a dub and reggae band, in 95 he set up the trance band Jaïa with Yannis Kamarinos. They got a good many live dates, tracks released and were part of several record productions alongside big names ... Apart from this project, Koala always kept mixing ambient sounds and its derivatives. Inspired by artists like Steve Roach, Michael Stearns or Lightwave, Koala has a kind of spacey classy style. Quite touched by dub, worldmusic and electro, he's keen on playing little sound tricks on you, sliding from one universe to another, no warning...pure good-heartedness and mastery.
